We are 20 years into the corporate digital development, and most organizations have a sophisticated digital footprint that includes web, mobile, and social channels. But despite the ubiquity of digital, few organizations have a real sense of who is accountable for digital quality. And often, that quality can be low.
On any given day, customers can log on to an organization's website and find rogue areas and other errors the marketing staff doesn't know about -- and wish didn't exist. These "mistakes" fall into two camps: ones that degrade the brand, and ones that can lead to legal liability. More at iMediaConnection.
Data-driven marketing (DDM) spending will continue on an upward growth trajectory this year. In a January 2015 study by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and Winterberry Group, nearly four in 10 US marketing professionals expected their companies’ investment in DDM to increase between Q4 2014 and Q1 2015, with about one-quarter of that group estimating a significant rise. This was nearly 12 percentage points higher than the share of respondents who said the same about spending growth between Q3 and Q4 2014. More at eMarketer.

Content marketing continues to rise in popularity among digital strategists, and this is no surprise when you look at search trends over the last seven years; between January 2008 and November 2014, the number of Google searches for the term “content marketing” increased 700 percent.
Because the Internet is full of written content, successful strategists realize that they need to create content for multiple channels in order to stand out from the rest of the crowd. More and more, brands are relying on video for its ability to deliver highly memorable and emotional content through the incorporation of sound. More at TNW
The apparent maturation of big data and technology in business and creativity was a prevalent theme at SXSW this past week. I counted at least 20 sessions dedicated to data and predictive analytics in some way or another, along with a raft of sessions around the topic of how data science and creativity come together.
One session in particular, titled "All Signs Point to Yes: Predictive Is Here" explored how predictive technologies can enable businesses to use data science to factor in thousands of signals about any problem, from marketing to recruitment to optimizing internal production systems. Smartphones expanded their majority share of mobile ad impressions via sites and apps in Mexico last year, according to recent data from InMobi, as the device type grabbed 77.6% of mobile ad impressions served on the company's network. This portion was up from 70.8% in 2013 and largely at the expense of feature phones, which accounted for just 2.4% of impressions in 2014, vs. 8.8% in 2013.
This trend is in line with increasing adoption of smartphones in Mexico. eMarketer estimates that this year, 34.2 million consumers in Mexico will use smartphones. More at eMarketer.
Futurist Ray Kurzweil, who has penned a series of books discussing what he calls singularity claims the capabilities to upload the human mind may be available by 2030.
Kurzweil outlines his idea of exactly how the uploaded human consciousness may interact with other consciousnesses via a sort of internet server.
He provides details on how the conversations and experiences may take place. For example, in the future, all minds — including both the living and dead — may be connected to an internet server. More at Kurzweil.
